Memorials

Patrick gave the eulogy at my mother’s service. Several days before, we met and he asked questions about my mother’s life. Over the next couple of days we corresponded and finalized details. On the day of my mother’s service, Patrick arrived early and was well prepared. He wove the information I gave him into a cohesive narrative about my mother’s life.

Family and friends laughed. We cried. We celebrated my mother’s life, as she would have wanted. At the end of that day, one of my mother’s closest friend’s came to me and said, “I know this might sound strange. Normally I hate going to funerals. But I had a really good time today.” That, I think, summarized the experience for most, if not all, of us. Patrick was an integral part of that.
